About Prevu Med
Prevu Med is a healthcare price transparency tool that helps patients compare real cash pay prices for medical procedures before they book. We cover clinics and hospitals across all 50 states nationwide.
Where Our Prices Come From
Our price data comes from two sources:
Under the federal Hospital Price Transparency Rule (effective January 2021), all U.S. hospitals are required to publish machine-readable files containing their standard charges, including self-pay and cash discount prices. We parse these files — which hospitals update quarterly — to extract cash pay prices for hundreds of procedures.
Patients who have recently paid for a procedure can submit what they actually paid. These crowdsourced reports help fill in gaps where hospital transparency data is incomplete or where smaller clinics do not publish standard charge files. All submitted prices are reviewed before being published.
Important Notes About Our Prices
- Prices shown are cash pay / self-pay rates — what a patient pays without using insurance.
- Prices are updated regularly but may not reflect the most recent changes at individual facilities. Always confirm the price with the provider before your appointment.
- Hospital cash prices listed in price transparency files are the chargemaster rate. Some facilities offer additional discounts for patients who ask for a cash pay discount at time of service.
- The same CPT code can represent different levels of complexity at different facilities. Your final cost may vary.
